About Us
We are a young company with old fashioned ideals for quality, integrity and craftsmanship. Owner and lead Carpenter, Gerald VanderMeulen learned his trade the best way, through the real-life apprenticeships passed down through the generations from grandfather, to father, to son. In his family’s wood shops, raw materials were fashioned into handcrafted furniture and millwork pieces, establishing a legacy of craftsmanship.
Today, our passion for custom woodworking is rooted in that same tradition and pride. The tools of the trade might have changed some, but only for the better. Using current computer design technology to create full-scale plans, we offer clients three-dimensional digital images. This takes the guess work out of the finished product and helps our customers feel secure in the final installations.
In this changing world, environmental issues are at the forefront of our work. At Fergus Custom Woodworking, we are conscious consumers working with suppliers who are members of the Forest Stewardship Council. We purchase domestic woods that are harvested using sustainable forestry practices. Our recycling policy and use of environmentally-friendly wood finishes help us to establish a model of best practices for the future of our craft.
Our future is Contemporary design. We believe that Contemporary woodworking is not just about building something beautiful; it is about functional, clean design with a conscious, elegant style and an eye for detail. This is about spatial form and the artful use of natural woods to enhance the colour, texture and atmosphere in any space. It is an investment in craftsmanship and enduring quality, built to last a lifetime. Now that is beautiful.
Integrity and pride in craftsmanship are essential to our reputation. At Fergus Custom Wood Working, we take nothing for granted. Quality means no short-cuts. We’re building our future, one project at a time. Let us build yours too.
